2013年4月18日. 加拿大移民部今天宣布，加拿大联邦技术移民即将在5月4日重新开始接受新的申请。申请人的职业需在限定的24项职业类别之中（职业列表见下）。虽然每年的总名额有5千个，但每个职业只有300个名额。这意味着有些热门职业如电脑工程师、程序员、财务分析师、土木、机械及化学工程师等的名额可能很快就会被用光。如果你的职业正好在以下的职业清单上又有意申请加拿大移民来Back-Up你美国的身份，那你必须从今天开始行动才有可能抢占到名额！

新出台的政策对英语语言的要求被提高了。雅思考试(G类)的听说读写四项要求在6分以上。这在很大程度上限制了来自中国本土的申请人。但对于在美国持F1、H1、J1或L1 身份的华人来说语言方面有一定的优势。新政策的另一个变化是申请人的学历要经过移民局认可的几个评估机构做评估，而且要求所有的申请人都要在本政策公布之后向这些评估机构递交评估申请。因评估审核的时间可能会有几个月，所以这段等待期间正是申请人准备其它文件的最佳时期。

如果你是在美国持F1、H1、J1或L1身份，觉得美国绿卡遥遥无期，申请加拿大枫叶卡有如下好处：

• 拿到枫叶卡后，你还可以象以前一样继续留在美国工作或学习（约四年内不用移居加拿大）
• 在此期间万一你在美国的身份出现问题，你可以去加拿大申请十年多次往返美国的签证，从此进出美国无签证的烦恼。
• 可在三年后申请加拿大公民，有了加拿大公民身份，你可非常方便地在美国合法居住和工作。
