When the veil of smog and haze hangs up over the sky
当天空挂上雾霾的纱幔
Did you ever think the sun is dust-darkened and never bright
你是否怀疑过太阳蒙上灰尘从此黯淡无光
When the earth sends forth a roar trembling
当大地发出颤抖的轰鸣
Did you ever imagine the universe is wheezing and the world to chaos returning
你是否臆想过宇宙也会哮喘,苍穹一片洪荒
When mountains spout lava and flame
当高山喷出熔岩的火焰
Did you ever fret about birds losing their homes, and flowers no longer the same
你是否忧虑小鸟失去家园, 鲜花不再芬芳
In this world where science coexists with ignorance
在这个科学与愚昧并存交织的世界
Fragile are the nerves, and hearts cold with indifference
神经如此脆弱，胸膛如此苍凉
Yet, I hear like the solar wind a sounding voice
然而，我听见了一个太阳风般的声音在呼号
No more bias, and no more whispers and noise
请不要一叶障目，请不要喋喋私语
Trust China! Please keep faith in China!

When the coronavirus spoiled Chinese dinner tables on Spring Festival Eve
不是吗？就在新型冠状病毒侵扰除夕餐桌的时刻
Didn’t you see people wrapped up in fear and loss and grief
不是有人为之忧患、为之恐慌、为之迷茫
Yet did you see any other nation in such swift and determined execution
试问，世界上有哪个国家有如此执政力
That at a summoning call, tens of thousands of health workers left their beloved without hesitation
一声召唤，无数医务工作者抛开骨肉家园
Together they went to the epidemic front lines to fight the deadly devil
齐刷刷赶赴抗疫前线，与魔鬼展开殊死较量
Did you see any other nation with such high cohesion
试问，世界上有哪个国度有如此凝聚力
That billions of Chinese keep themselves indoors upon a word of mobilization
一声动员，十四亿炎黄子孙齐整整关掉门户
Turning millions and millions of households into fortresses impenetrable
千家万户、万户千家，铸起铁壁铜墙
Entrepreneurs, celebrities and common citizens put their hearts together without persuasion
不用动员，企业家、明星、普通公民一起捧出炽热衷肠
In no time, excavator’s arms lifted a new hope for revival
顷刻之间，掘进机手臂从地平线上托起了浴火重生的新希望
At the time when this virus of unknown origin started spreading across the world
当疫情找不到源头在世界各地蔓延的时刻
China stood arm in arm with world people sharing everything she could
中国人倾其所有，与世界人民挽起共同抗疫的臂膀
Yes, it is China, so beautiful and so confident
是美丽自信的中国
Who embeds human dignity into bones of nation, and chest of history
将大写的人字嵌进民族的筋骨、历史的胸膛
Oh! Facing the world, why do I often shed tears so plentiful
哦，面对世界，我为何常常泪眼滂沱
Oh! Facing the future, why do I often keep watching with eager eyes
哦，面向未来，我为何常常凝神守望
To believe in China means to hear what China has to say
相信中国就是让世界倾听中国声音
To believe in China means to see China as she is today
相信中国就是让世界看见中国力量
The first of the two Chinese characters for China is中, meaning neutrality and harmony
中国的中字，蕴含的是中和的意思
Ancient Chinese philosophers have long taught us to share the beauty and achieve unity
大美世界和美与共来自诸子百家源远流长
Hieroglyphically a country is国, the second character for China
中国的国字，原是一个或多或少的或字
Guarded by its people who will not an inch of land surrender
加上一个口字意味着寸土不让
The character for human being is人，which connotes harmony of heaven, earth and man
中国的人字，讲的是天地人和
Simple it may appear, but carries the forces supporting each other
看起来简单却承载相互支撑的力量
The character for heart is心, in full bloom a lotus
中国的心字，就是盛开的莲花
That rises unsullied from mud with elegance luminous
出淤泥而不染留下满腹清气光耀八方
Unity of heart and eyes the character for virtue德stresses
中国的德字，讲究的是心目合一
With folded hands suggesting devoutness and kindness
双手合十象征着虔诚善良
The character for Cathay is 华 like a towering tree
中国的华字，像一棵参天大树
That plants seeds of life, leaving the world in shade and glee
种下的是生命的幼苗留下的是世界的荫凉
Characters for universe tell of invisible vastness in space, and love involves the depth of the heart
Thus is Chinese hieroglyph, with each character containing a legend so wise and smart
中国的象形文字，每个汉字都包含一个传奇故事
它将大象无形写在宇宙，它把大爱无垠刻在心上
Please trust China! Believe that the Chinese blood runs vibrantly
相信中国！相信中国
With sustained virtues of moderation, respect, tolerance, beneficence and frugality.
中国人延续的温良恭俭让汇成中国血脉雄浑流淌
Please trust China! Believe that imperishable is the Chinese spirit
相信中国！相信中国
Moulded by benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trust, the tradition inherited
中国人传承的仁义礼智信塑造中国精神千古流芳
Stay with Chinese, and you will know what hospitality is
和中国人在一起，你会懂得重情重义
Make friends with Chinese, and you will learn what lasting friendship is
和中国人交朋友，你会明白地久天长
Do business with Chinese, and you’ll understand that they prefer loss to unjust profit
和中国人谈生意，你会知道吃亏在前
Marry a Chinese and you’ll find family tradition is taken as the core spirit

What is bearing, what is belief
什么叫气度，什么叫信仰
See the scrolling gallery of the Great Wall paved with the five-thousand-year history
中华五千年历史拓展铺就万里长城的书卷画廊
What is a broad mind? What is a great dream
什么叫胸怀，什么叫梦想
Hear the surging Yellow River and Yangzi that wind through the five-thousand-year culture
中华五千年文化汇聚而成万马奔腾的黄河长江
At the very moment, I see on my desk a globe silent
此刻，在我的桌前摆着一个不会说话的地球仪
Like a human head it forever listens and thinks to reach a judgement
它像人类的头颅时刻在倾听在思辨、在倾听、在考量
My left hand gently touched the penguins of Antarctica child-like and cute
我的左手轻轻地摸了摸南极洲孩子般可爱的企鹅
Never prepared for a glowing head like a steel furnace where flames shoot
谁想它的头顶酷似炼钢的炉子，喷发出光焰万丈
My right hand slowly reached the Arctic Ocean for the playful baby bear
我的右手慢慢伸向北冰洋徜徉玩耍的熊宝宝
Unexpectedly like a shark’s teeth my bleeding heart it would tear
谁料它就像鲨鱼的牙齿咬住我涓涓滴血的心脏
Timidly I touched the fertile lands rich in petroleum and gold
我胆怯地碰了碰那片生长着黄金原油的肥沃土地
Yet like a naked beggar it tried to pull off my last cloak
它宛如赤裸的乞丐要扒光我最后遮羞的衣裳
No, this is not the world I want! Never and ever
这不是我想要的世界！不是！绝对不是
Feel the stones there! They have a fever
摸一摸那里的石头吧，体温有些偏高
Touch the trees here! Their heartbeats are irregular
抚一抚这里的树木吧，心律有点失衡

Always ready to help neighbours, leaving their own hunger and cold out of mind

If you know why Chinese people are born to be such dreamers
你是否了解中国人为什么生来就爱做梦
As Yugong who dreams of moving the mountains
梦见高山就是愚公
As Jingwei who dreams of filling the oceans up to the plains
梦见大海就是精卫
As Chang’e who flies to the palace of the moon
梦见嫦娥就飞向月宫
As the phoenix who grows wings to rise from the ashes
梦见凤凰就长出翅膀
Having trekked through the greatest hardships the Chinese are fearless of twists and turns
跋涉过艰难曲折的中国人，再不怕荆棘坎坷
Having crossed mountains and rivers the Chinese no longer dread hidden rocks and dangerous waves
跨越过万水千山的中国人，再不怕暗礁险浪
With all the ups and downs and all those sufferings and pains behind
他们穷过富过累过苦过，一切都从容淡定
They are now coolheaded and composed, and quiet in mind
他们跌过摔过疼过忍过，一切都云淡风轻
To believe in China is to believe that red roses will for love eventually bloom
相信中国就是相信红色玫瑰终究会为爱情开放
To believe in China is to believe that every nation can find on the world stage some room
相信中国就是相信世界舞台人人都能粉墨登场
To believe in China is to believe that all disputes should be settled through equal talks to get along
相信中国，就是相信家国事情个个都能平等协商
To believe in China is to believe that no nation should bully the weak, however strong
相信中国，就是相信国与国之间绝不能凌弱施强
With the same sun and moon shining up there
世界上只有同一轮太阳,同一束月光
The entire earth has become a village nature has left for all to share
整个地球就是大自然留给人类共享的村庄

Let us forge badges with global villagers as our names

Despite the despairing eyes in this wide wide world
在这博大世界里也许还有绝望的眼神
Give your trust! Stand together, and from despair hope will be born

China, a nation old and young, gets strong to make the whole world strong

Yes, we are faced with a solid and urgent question
啊，这是一个多么迫切而回避不了的命题
Yes, we are in the same test without exception
啊，这是一个全人类都要完成的神圣答卷
We are now boarding on the same vessel of human destiny

Let us all stride ahead on the sunny road of peace and prosperity

In a world where one is all and all is one, when we sow a dream, we become the dream
在这家国同源的世界，我们播种梦想，我们就是梦想
In a world where justice is the common yearning, when we harvest a hope, we are the hope
在这大道归心的世界，我们收获希望，我们就是希望

作者简介：
郝立轩 中国当代著名诗人、词作家、文化学者，系中国音乐文学学会常务理事、中国音乐家协会会员、河北省文化艺术工作指导委员会专家、河北省音乐家协会副主席兼创作委员会主任。
主要诗词代表作，二十世纪九十年代初期创作的长诗《喊黄河》，列入全国大中专院校经典范文、辅导教材和高考课件，收入《中外朗诵经典诗文选》《美丽中国 朗诵经典》《全民阅读 阶梯文库》等国家权威典籍，享誉中外、广为传诵；刊发《人民日报》的长诗《美丽中国梦》成为全国中小学广为吟诵的经典美文。
其作词的歌曲《我的祝福你听见了吗》《天下百姓》，荣获第十一、十三届中宣部精神文明建设五个一工程奖，与《中华好家风》《做个好人并不难》《梦想有一天》《天山红》等经典歌曲，经久流传、家喻户晓。
About the author:
Hao Lixuan is a famous contemporary Chinese poet, writer and cultural scholar. He is the executive director of the Chinese society of music and literature, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, an expert of the Steering Committee for cultural and art work of Hebei Province, and vice chairman and director of the creative Committee of the Musicians Association of Hebei Province.
His main representative works of poetry, the long poem Yelling for the Yellow River created in the early 1990s, has been listed in the classic model articles, guidance materials and college entrance examination courseware of national universities and colleges, and has been included in “Selected Classical Poems of Chinese and Foreign Recitation”, “Classic Reading of Beautiful China” and ‘National Reading” Ladder library and other national authoritative books, which is well-known both at home and abroad and widely read. His long poem Beautiful Chinese Dream published by people’s Daily has become a main article widely recited by primary and secondary schools all over the country.
His songs My Blessing Do You Hear and The People of The World won the 11th and 13th Central Publicity Department’s Five-One-Project Awards for spiritual civilization construction. Other songs such as Good family style of China, It's Not Difficult to Be a Good Man, Dream one day,and Tianshan Red have also been widely known for a long time.

唐翠云教授, 唐山师范学院外语系副主任，教学名师。毕业于北京第二外国语学院，英语语言文学专业硕士研究生，专业与研究方向为英美文学与英美文学教学。中国英语诗歌研究会理事，河北省莎士比亚学会常务理事，英国曼彻斯特城市大学访问学者，河北省全员远程培训初中英语学科专家组组长，河北省教师培训专家委员会专家。曾主编、参编国家“十一五”规划教材《美英报刊选读》等5部，由北大出版社、中国建材工业出版社、河北大学出版社等出版；专著《走近乔治·奥威尔》由新华出版社出版；译著《动物机器》，由北京外语教学与研究出版社出版；个人诗歌散文集《小品四季》，中国农业出版社出版；发表各级各类论文十余篇。
About the translator:
Professor Tang Cuiyun, winner of Award for Teaching Excellence, is vice dean of the Foreign Language Department of Tangshan Normal University, China. She graduated from Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute with a master’s degree majoring in English literature, and once stayed in the UK as a visiting scholar of Manchester Metropolitan University. Currently she is the director of China English Poetry Research Association, executive director of Hebei Shakespearen Society. She also works as a member of Hebei Teacher-training Expert Committee. So far she has edited and participated in the compilation of 5 text books, which were published by Peking University Press, China Building Materials Industry Press, Hebei University Press, etc. She is also the author of Approaching George Orwell which was published by Xinhua Press; the translator of Machanimals, published by Beijing Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. She also published a collection of her poetry and prose writing entitled Savoring the Seasons by China Agricultural Press.
